My Amazing Child

from I Think I Am by Colette O'Connor

/

about

Raising a child, there comes a day when their own lives diverge to places only they can go. Today is not that day. Soon. This song is the song of parting that celebrates who they will remain, even though the relationship will change. There is delicate strength here that assures everything will be fine. Originally written as a duet that alternated lines between parent and child, the child's voice has grown and gone away; now it's a solo. It's still beautiful.

lyrics

Daylight is fading away now.
Come here and sit by my side.
The wishing star is the first out.
and It's always there in your eyes, oh,
My amazing child
In between the dark and the light.
Breathing together.
Holding the moment,
and when it's over,
we'll be fine.
Deepening soft into twilight
I feel you reach for my hand.
Flickering stars hear us whisper
They number more than the sand.
My amazing child
In between the dark and the light.
Breathing together.
Holding the moment,
and when it's over,
we'll be fine.
Wish I may.
wish I might
have the wish
I wish tonight.
Nothing is lost in the darkness
everything hidden, is there.
other things may come between us
but I'll still be holding your hand.
My amazing child
In between the dark and the light.
Breathing together.
Holding the moment,
and when it's over,
we'll be fine.
