Hey Sunshine

from I Think I Am by Colette O'Connor

about

My morning scenario usually involves coffee. The details of each day are like a river, they flow and change, yet remain the same. This song holds snapshots that reflect life, as I find myself buying my morning coffee, putting money in a tip jar, or a buskers guitar case. I've been that counter help. I've been that street performer. The lines between us blur. The newsprint of every morning paper fades lives into lines of grey chalk outlines...a sea of humanity drowning in addiction, pain, apathy. Pain is invisible sometimes. A smile helps another know they are seen. A dollar helps another bear the pressure of pursuing a dream. Walk a mile for understanding. I sip my coffee, and try to be the change I wish to see in the world. It's all here, in this song.

lyrics

Got a morning coffee
put a dollar in her jar.
Just a little something for the pain.
Saw him in the doorway
he had tattered jeans
and a guitar
Broken strings and subways
in the rain.
Hey sunshine,
you're just fine.
Everyone can smile sometimes.
Just a little something for the pain.
Just a little something, Just a little easy something.
Just a little something for the pain.
In the morning headline
there's another thing to mourn
Chalk outlines fade away.
We forget sometimes and turn away from who we are.
Fallen angels in the rain, but
Hey sunshine,
you're just fine.
Everyone can smile sometimes.
Just a little something for the pain.
Just a little something, Just a little easy something.
Just a little something...
Life can happen 'til it's ugly.
Anger gets a strangle hold
but as I'm only looking for my morning coffee who am I?
Oh who am I?
Who am I to tell you so.
Hey sunshine,
you're just fine.
Everyone can smile sometimes.
Just a little something for the pain.
Just a little something, Just a little easy something.
Just a little something...
See my own reflection and it's so hard to refrain
Just a little something,
Just a little easy something
Just a little something for the pain.
